Featured Dive Site – El Gat

The name is derived from the “cat-like” shape of the dominant rock marking it’s location. This is a beautiful dive site. I have dived this site with our friends from The “Dive Club Empuriabrava” many times now and have never been disappointed. There are two entries for this dive, one to the north of the “Gat” and one south. The southerly one will get you to the drop quicker but is more exposed to currents when they are in play.El_Gat If you roll in from the southern entry point you can find a shelf at around twenty metres. Fin along this and you will find the drop to the wall soon enough! There is also a “garage” here if you need safe shelter for the boat.

A DEEP dive stretching down to over 50 metres this site is a “must do” for visitors to the region. Based on a wall dive, El Gat hosts a diverse selection of fish including such beauties as Grouper and Barracuda. There has also been the occasional sighting of the elusive Sunfish or “Mola Mola” too. For the “Flora fans” there is a vast array of Gorgonian fields of both white and red variety.
